The Upland Moors: The typical landscape
The typical upland moors were formed after the ice age. In areas with clay layers the water was prevented from disappearing into the ground and collected on the surface.
Peat bogs formed in these dents interrupted by small lakes whose water show a high concentration of acid, that is why there aren‘t any fish or other animals in them.Yet there are interesting plants that grow here, plants that can "eat" insects. The plants catch the insects with sticky material on their leaves in which the insects get caught. Then the leaves wrap the insects up and digest them.
The biggest upland moor in the Black Forest with some very nice lakes, the "Wildsee" and lake "Hohloh" is a nature preserve near Kaltenbronn, in the southeast of Baden-Baden.
